Santoku Knife

The word Santoku means ‘three virtues’ in Japanese because it copes with chopping, dicing and mincing abilities really well.

Typically, the blade ranges from 5 inches to 7 inches in lengths, but smaller ones are available. These japanese knives have a styling – looking a bit like a narrow cleaver and they are specifically designed for a comfortable, well balanced grip while giving the user full blade use.

Santoku knives are reknown for their sharp edges which really improves their cutting ability.

Another feature is the granton edge / release pattern / scalloped bit on the blades that not only looks really great, but also helps to release thin slices and sticky food after cutting.

Prices are influenced by how they are made, the quality of steel, whether they are full or partial tang and how the knife is put together.

Santoku knives are also available in ceramic construction. Although there are many higher priced models, a good affordable Santoku knife is readily available.
